All systems go for BSF in Tower Hamlets

Kevan Collins, Director of Children’s Services at Tower Hamlets Council shakes hands with Madani Sow, Chairman of Bouygues UK at Tower Hamlets Town Hall.

Tower Hamlets Council and Bouygues UK have shaken hands on one of the fastest Building Schools for the Future contract closes in the country.

The Council’s Director of Children’s Services, Kevan Collins and Bouygues UK’s Chairman Madani Sow met last week, after the two organisations recently completed contractual close for the £300m programme – just four months after Bouygues was confirmed as the selected bidder.

The BSF programme for Tower Hamlets is well and truly up and running and, with works at three sites in the East London borough having already commenced, local residents will soon be able to see the huge benefits the programme will bring to the area.

Cllr Clair Hawkins, Lead Member for Children’s Services at Tower Hamlets Council said:

“We are delighted that we have reached this significant stage of our Building Schools for the Future programme.

“BSF is going to completely transform education in Tower Hamlets, and our residents can look forward to seeing some fantastic new facilities in the very near future.

“The new facilities will make learning a more enjoyable experience for students, and we are confident they will also have a positive impact on performance.”

As well as transforming education, Building Schools for the Future will also bring jobs to Tower Hamlets. Speaking of the BSF programme, Bouygues UK Chairman Madani Sow said:

“The impact this will have on communities in Tower Hamlets is considerable – not just for the pupils but for residents across the borough. We are committed to supporting local industry and will be working in close partnership with the Authority to provide job opportunities and apprenticeships to the residents of Tower Hamlets. This is a fantastic programme for Bouygues UK to be involved in and we are very excited and proud to be part of such an extensive regeneration programme.”

Construction work has now begun at two schools in the borough, with a brand new sixth form centre also being developed.
